Everybody shut up
Monday, December 29th, 2008Between all the dogs growling and usually at least one person shouting for petty reasons, I’m surprised that being back in Miami is as comforting as it is. Perhaps it’s the fact the temperature’s never dropped below 75 degrees compared to New York’s frozen teens. Or perhaps it’s the fact I’ve finally gotten away from the solid block of thesis work that felt like it would lead to my eventual demise (from a combination of sleep deprivation and carpal tunnel).
Unfortunately, my mode of relaxation involves staring at a ceiling for a good few hours and occasionally playing the video games I missed so much when all I had time for was work, thesis, and eating. So I haven’t really drawn too much lately, and it’s not something that’s bothered me a whole lot. I’ll get to it when I get to it. In the mean time, here’s a list of things that will be forthcoming:
- Possible promo mailer. Not that that affects a lot of casual viewers on the internet, but it’s still awesome.
- Website re-design! I’ve been longing for something a little cleaner so I may actually have the time to code it before school starts up again.
- Items for sale–I have stacks and stacks of prints I’ve been meaning to get rid of, and unless someone wants to buy some, they’ll all be retired to that great big bonfire in the sky. By which I mean a real bonfire.
- Maybe I’ll actually post images of my thesis work somewhere. Maybe.
- FOLLY vol. 4. “What is Folly, and why are there 3 volumes I’ve never heard of,” you ask? FOLLY refers to any sort of fold-out booklet/pinup I’ve made in the past, and I am pleased to announce that volume 4 is the prettiest and most valuable to date. Here are some previews:

Available in Bubblegum Pink and Mint.

If you like pink and pointless smut, today’s your lucky day.
Also! This is less of an event forthcoming and more of an announcement I forgot to write an entry about because I was so goshdarned busy. The Mimobot I designed is on sale now! His name is COSMOBOT.

My god, he’s full of stars!
For those who are unaware, Mimoco is a company that creates mimobots–collectible USB flash drives in the form of adorable toys. In 2007, they held a contest for a new series of mimobot designs, and mine was one among three winners for that round. I feel like mine is definitely a bit atypical among the designs of the other winners; not to mention among all the designs period–but I like him a lot, and I was less concerned with the demographic Mimoco appeals to and much more desiring to stay true to my own aesthetic (which is decidedly nerdy, I believe. If Cosmobot sells at all, it’ll be to only to those who like the idea of a little spaceman plugged into their computer. Or possibly to those who want Communist storage devices).
He’s available in 1, 2, 4, and an impressive 8 GB. I got a few of these for free myself and I was pleased to see that the 8 GB one was no thicker or bigger than the 1 GB one. So it’s a pretty rad design they’ve got going here. They were kind enough to interview me for a little Artist’s page on their website. Also, in some places Mimoco credits it to “Gutless Wonder”–that’s just the message board screen name I used to submit my design. In hopes Google will pick up this tidbit of information and disseminate it throughout the universe, I will say it now: Gutless Wonder is Roxie Vizcarra. There.
And just so I feel like I have something new to show anyone,
