Saturday night’s opening for Dime Bag 3 at Giant Robot was fantastic! Fantastically crowded, sweaty, and humid, but nevertheless great. There are tons of pictures of the event on the GRNY website, although I’ve noticed the conspicuous lack of a photo I appeared in–possibly the smile I was faking was a little too terrifying for blog purposes.

My, I have not updated in a while! Not really surprising I guess. But, I should let you know that tonight is the opening reception for a group show I am in entitled Dime Bag 3. It takes place at GIANT ROBOT NY.

Each of the more than two hundred invited artists will receive a 3″ x 3″ clear ziplock-style bag, a “dime bag” of sorts, which is to be used as a container for their piece. The 200 bags will be installed in a grid-like arrangement, each hung with a single nail across two walls of the space. The works will also be for sale individually.

The show is curated by two of my former teachers, Jordin Isip and Rodger Stevens. Here’s the official show postcard…although it’s impossible to list all the artists in the show, since there are over 200.

I won’t post my piece here just yet (IT IS A SECRET) but I can say I had a lot of fun making it! And I actually painted in traditional media for a change, which was fun but challenging despite the fact the piece was only about 3″ squared. I’m excited to see my piece as well as everyone else’s, since I have a lot of friends and acquaintances in the show. If you’re anywhere in the New York area, you should really go see it!
